Metalprogetti, the
history of a vision.
Metalprogetti
was created out of a vision.
A vision that Augusto Santicchi,
the company’s founder and current president,
had when he visited Expodetergo
for the first time, the equipment, service and product
trade show for the dry-cleaning and laundry industry.
The pavilions were large and visitors moved from
one floor to the other with escalators. It was the
late 1970’s. Laundries were
beginning to modernize with the first garment handling
systems and store appearance and furnishings were
being put at the top of the priority list.
Santicchi looked around in awe, with the watchful
eye that he has always been known for: the escalator
that was carrying him up… the handling systems,
still rather simple with exposed mechanics…
the appearance of the shop…
Hence the idea.
Escalators are efficient, a convenient form of transportation
that is also aesthetically pleasing. The handrail
of the escalator, at closer inspection, would be
the ideal solution for transporting hangers. Simply
by turning it over.
And why not make the garment handling system in
laundries attractive as well? Why not develop its
aesthetic appearance while perfecting its technology?
This is how Metalprogetti’s
first garment handling system was
born. From the vision of Augusto Santicchi
and his biggest passion: innovation and the simplification
of problems.
The gamble paid off, with the first 60 prototypes
produced in 1980 alone. This prompted
Santicchi to leave an established career with a
large company such as Perugina, where he had worked
since he was an adolescent, as a shop assistant
after he finished his technical school studies,
then as a specialized technician in the Work Timing
and Methods Department. The years he spent improving
and refining production processes proved to be invaluable
to his entrepreneurial future. And from the very
beginning, he received vital support from his entire
family and a team of trusted designers and collaborators.
From his first vision that led him to create the
Portabiti garment handling system,
to the numerous products of today, designed for
a wide range of sectors, the spirit that characterizes
each new Metalprogetti
system remains the same: incorporating an innovating
feature that improves upon previous standards and
performance. And making the most complex problems
simple, with attractive and harmonious solutions.
The next vision is sure to come about the same way.
